How to Write the Best 'Thank You' Note

The giving season is approaching quickly and gifts and get-togethers will be abundant. While a verbal thank-you gets the job, your friends and family will truly appreciate and remember a hand written thank you card. Plus, stationary is always something you should invest in. Check out our helpful tips for the perfect thank you card:

  • Get yourself some stationary you want to write on: I have a large box of cute thank you cards that I purchased from Target years ago that are still being used. They're neutral enough to be used for any occasion. Monogrammed stationary is classy and super easy to find. Sites like Etsy or Paper Source are perfect. Pro tip: get some fun stamps. My Harry Potter stamps are always a huge hit. ;)
  • Keep it short & sweet: Don't add in a ton of fancy frills, just enough room for your gratitude.
  • Hand written!!!: This may be obvious but a hand written card is much more meaningful than a text or email. Emails get lost and seem impersonal. Take the time to write a card, it won't go unnoticed.
  • Write about the gift and the person: Mentioning the actual gift or dinner party will show that you didn't write just some ole stock thank you card. Don't forget to talk about this person and what they mean to you.
  • Show your personality: If you and the person you're thanking have a funny, witty sense of humor together, then be fun and witty! Pro tip: write a forward statement: "Looking forward to getting together soon, I'll bring the wine this time!"
  • Write a rough draft: Whether you want to type or write it, it's a always a good idea to start with a rough draft. Have a friend check for spelling. :)
